How to Wash Baby Clothes: Detergents, Temperature and Stains
BabyProduct Team · 17 Jul 2026
Wash before first wear
New clothes carry finishing chemicals and dust from storage. One wash before wearing removes most of it.
Choose a mild detergent
Fragrance-free, dye-free options are least likely to irritate. Use less than you think — detergent residue is a common cause of itchiness.
Skip the fabric softener
It coats fibres, reduces absorbency in towels and muslins, and adds fragrance that skin may react to.
Stains
Rinse in cold water quickly — hot water sets protein stains from milk. Sunlight is remarkably effective on yellowing.
