Night Nappy Changes Without Fully Waking Your Baby

Decide whether you need to change at all
A wet nappy on a sleeping baby does not always need changing overnight. Modern absorbent nappies handle it, and the disturbance often costs more sleep than the wetness does.
A soiled nappy is different — change that promptly to protect the skin.
Set the station up before bed
At 3 a.m. you want everything within arm's reach: nappy, wipes, cream, a change of clothes and a bag for the used one. Restock it every evening as part of the bedtime routine.
Hunting for wipes in the dark is what turns a two-minute change into a twenty-minute wake-up.
Keep it dark and quiet
A dim, warm-toned night light is enough to see by. Bright overhead light signals morning to a half-asleep baby.
Keep talking to a minimum and skip the eye contact and play that you would offer during the day. The message is: this is still night.
Warm the wipes
A cold wipe is the single most reliable way to fully wake a drowsy baby. Hold it in your hand for a moment, or keep them somewhere that is not the coldest corner of the room.
The same applies to your hands on a winter night.
Reduce the need for changes
Going one size up at night, or using a dedicated overnight nappy, buys more absorbency and often removes the need entirely. A booster pad inside the nappy is another option for heavy wetters.
If leaks are frequent, check the fit at the thighs before buying anything new — bad fit causes more leaks than low absorbency does.
